History
Frigieri Frères (French for “Frigieri Brothers”) was a prominent hardware and ironmongery business in Alexandria, Egypt, established in 1939 by Joseph Frigieri, a Maltese-Italian entrepreneur. The store became renowned among Alexandria’s cosmopolitan community for offering a unique selection of imported tools and equipment, including British products from BUCK & HICKMAN Ltd, American STANLEY tools, and YALE locks.
The business was later managed by Joseph’s sons, Mario and Carlo Frigieri. However, due to political and economic changes in Egypt during the 1990s, and the subsequent emigration of many cosmopolitan communities, the shop was permanently closed in 1996 by Jean-Claude Frigieri, Mario’s son.
In 2023, Jean-Claude Frigieri, now based in London, co-founded Frigieri & Co. London Ltd. with Egyptian architect and interior designer May El Tabbakh. The company, known as the “House of Mediterranean Designs,” offers a curated selection of interior and exterior products sourced from across the Mediterranean, continuing the family’s legacy of craftsmanship and cultural appreciation
