History

Since the early 19th century, the Frigieri family, originally from Malta, was a pioneer in the trading of and dealing with imported and locally crafted hardware and ironmongery in Alexandria, Egypt, and FRIGIERI FRÈRES or FRIGIERI BROTHERS has marked its brand well among the cosmopolitan Alexandrian community. Established by Maltese Italian Joseph Frigieri in 1939, the store offered a unique selection of tools and equipment not to be found elsewhere. It was the only place to go look for British products by BUCK & HICKMAN, Ltd, or American STANLEY tools and YALE locks.

The store was bequeathed later to Mario Frigieri, Joseph’s son and his brother Carlo. Due to the political and economic situation in Egypt in the 1990s, and following the wave of mass immigrations of the cosmopolitan communities who have been residing in Egypt for centuries, Jean Claude Frigieri, son of Mario Frigieri, was obliged to permanently close down the shop and relocate to London, UK in 1996.
